Truncation Error in Image Interpolation
نویسنده
چکیده
Interpolation is a fundamental issue in image processing. In this short paper, we communicate ongoing results concerning the accuracy of two landmark approaches: the Shannon expansion and the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) interpolation. Among all sources of error, we focus on the impact of spatial truncation. Our estimations are expressed in the form of upper bounds on the Root Mean Squared Error as a function of the distance to the image border. The quality of these bounds is appraised through experiments driven on natural images.

Influence of Unknown Exterior Samples on Interpolated Values for Band-Limited Images
The growing size of digital images and their increasing information content in terms of bits per pixel (or SNR) leads to ask to which extent the known samples permit to restore the underlying continuous image. In the context of band-limited data the Shannon-Whittaker theory gives an adequate theoretical answer provided that infinitely many samples are measured. Yet, we show that the current acc...
متن کاملBlock Truncation Coding using Enhanced Interpolations and Lookup Procedures for Image Compression
Block Truncation Coding is one of the easy and efficient techniques for lossy image compression. In this paper, we have proposed few methods to enhance the existing Interpolative and Lookup procedures to reduce the bitrate and to improve the PSNR obtained with the Block Truncation Coding (BTC) based image compression methods. Of the existing BTC based methods, we have implemented the Minimum Me...
متن کاملInterpolative Absolute Block Truncation Coding for Image Compression
In this paper, an interpolation technique of nearest neighbour base is proposed along with absolute block truncation coding that exploited the spatial domain of low resolution image, and then reversely reconstruct the up layers hierarchically. The results showed the superior performance of compression ratio and image quality compared to traditional absolute block truncation coding.
متن کاملTowards Implicit Subgrid-scale Modeling by Particle Methods
The numerical truncation error of vortex-in-cell methods is analyzed a-posteriori through the effective spectral numerical viscosity for simulations of three-dimensional isotropic turbulence. The interpolation kernels used for velocity-smoothing and re-meshing are identified as the most relevant components affecting the shape of the spectral numerical viscosity as a function of wave number. A l...
متن کاملSpline Solution for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation
We develop an exponential spline interpolation method to solve the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. The truncation error and stability analysis of the method are investigated and the method is shown to be unconditionally stable. The conservation quantities are computed to determine the conservation properties of the problem. We will describe the method and present numerical tests by two problems...
